Software the runs under Linux.

If you're curious about Linux I suggest you give it a go! The easiest way is to create what's called a live CD, which let's you try an operating system without having to install anything; you reboot your computer and run it straight of a USB or disc drive.

Two distributions I would recommend for beginners are Ubuntu and Antergos. Distro choice is not super important though, just pick one!
